I’ve been working with a graphic designer on some designs for a department logo to help communicate “what is 21st Century Learning” to ourselves, for one, and to others inside and outside the district. Part of me resists the phrase “21st Century Learning” because it seems vague and maybe arbitrary depending on your context and doesn’t tell a true story. The 21st century in Syria and the 21st century in Santa Ana look different, feel different. So what is true about the name? Team 21C. 21st Century Learning brings to mind the 4C’s, which I love – creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking – because these are moments in my life that I enjoy. Moments of true communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking are moments of happiness, joy and fulfillment. I wonder if we should use a happy face emoji as the department logo?
